Located on the north west coast of Baffin Island's Borden Peninsula, the area surrounding of Arctic Bay is renowned among filmmakers and naturalists for its diverse and prolific wildlife. The town of Arctic Bay, built on land first occupied by nomadic Inuit tribes migrating eastward across the Arctic, is known in Inuktitut as "Ikpiarjuk," meaning "the pocket," describing its location among high hills in an almost landlocked bay.
