Repulse - Nunavut
An arc of stones marks the exact point where the Arctic Circle crosses this small town in northeastern Nunavut. Called Naujaat, or "nesting seagulls" by the native Iglulik Inuit, the town was frequented by whalers in the late 19th century, and fur traders in the early twentieth. Today, native Inuit still maintain their sustainable hunting traditions, which form an essential backbone to their culture.
