The Greenland Shark is among the largest in the world, fourth in line behind the whale shark, the basking shark, and the great white shark. Greenland Sharks commonly reach anywhere eight to fourteen feet in length, and the largest measured specimen was twenty-one feet. The sharks grow slowly, only an inch or two a year.
Grayish-blue with a small dorsal fin, the Greenland Shark's most distinguishing feature is it's glowing eyes. Scientists believe that this feature may be used to attract fish that normally feed on bioluminescent plants and sea creatures.
