Qaanaaq
Loosely translated, Qaanaaq means, "the place where one first sees the sun rise." Facing the Inlgefield Fjord to the southwest and adjacent to the Greenland sea, Quaanaaq is surrounded by ice all but three months out of the year. A natural reef beneath the Greenland sea protects the shore against floating icebergs, often trapping spectacular ice formations within sight of the town. The nearby fjord teems with Seals and Walrus, as well as Narwhal and Beluga Whales.
