POLAR BEARS OF DEVON ISLANDS 'BEAR BAY' BY LAND TAMER
Overview | Gallery
OVERVIEW
Using the newly arrived Land-Tamer - an 8 wheeled enclosed amphibious vehicle, this 10 day exploration of the high arctic's polar bear country will traverse a vast expanse of the high arctic from Grise Fiord to Bear Bay (Devon Island) to Resolute. This is the first ever trip offering of this kind and perfectly suited for the type of small, safe and highly reliable travel the Land-Tamer was designed to achieve.

Why is this trip Exploratory
- It will be the first time using the Land-Tamer by Arctic Kingdom - a project that has been in the works for 3 years
- Using it to cross over 250 km of sea ice and land from Grise Fiord to Resolute will be a major feat never before attempted by an amphibious vehicle
- Photographing polar bears in known areas of high polar bear concentrations
Overview
We are heading to Grise Fiord in mid-April to see for ourselves the numerous polar bears that should be seen along the norther shores of Devon Island in an area known as 'Bear Bay'. According to Inuit hunters, scientific observation, and Parks Canada wildlife officer feedback, Bear Bay has received it's name for a reason - this is polar bear country! There are many polar bears and we want to see them for ourselves - and only 3 other persons will be coming with us!
The Plan
We will be traveling over the sea ice from Grise Fiord to Bear Bay - on the northern shore of Devon Island. With any luck, we should even see polar bears along the way as they hunt for seals.
From Bear Bay, we will hug the northern coastline of Devon Island until we reach Viks fiord. We'll travel down Vik's fiord, and then west across Devon Island. Once the Devon Island traverse is complete we'll continue on down to Resolute where we will end the exploratory journey.
Possible Add on
Dundas Island polynya for Walrus
Depending on how we are doing for time, and the spirit of our crew, once we cross Devon Island, we can decide to head north approximately 30 km to the Dundas Island polynya that contains a large herd of walrus.

About the Land-Tamer
The land tamer is a project that Graham Dickson - founder of Arctic Kingdom envisioned over 3 years ago after determining that there was a need for a way to safely access areas of the arctic that have high concentrations of polar bears and be able to see them up close in a polar bear proof vehicle. The concept of the Land-Tamer was born.
