ANTARCTICA DIVING AND PHOTOGRAPHY

OVERVIEW
Land of the Penguins, Humpback, Minke, Orca whales and leopard seal! Diving in the polar south under ice where few have gone before.
For our dive and photography expeditions to Antarctica, we have chartered ice-strengthened polar vessels well suited to our purposes. Our mission is to explore Antarctica's underwater environment, a truly unique experience for the advanced diver. You will see amazing ice formations, and marine life seemingly from another planet, including salps and giant isopods. Seals race fearlessly by, their bodies dazzlingly graceful beneath the ice. Sunlight from above creates a stunning, ever-changing spectrum of color among the diverse benthos. Take your time to explore an environment few divers have ever experienced: the kelp walls, sea snails, crabs, sea butterflies, shrubby horsetails, jellyfish, squid, sea hedgehogs, starfish, krill and various fish beneath the Antarctic ice.
The waters of the Southern Ocean are tremendously significant to the world's ecosystem, affecting ocean conditions throughout the planet, and supporting an economically important world fishery of finfish, squid and krill.
Programs for Divers and Non-Divers Though diving is one of the main activities on our expeditions, photography is also an important element of the program underwater as well as topside, for divers as well as non-divers alike. A Zodiac is always available for the non-divers on the expedition, providing an excellent photography opportunities and the chance to make excursions from shipboard onto land. Well-known photographers, eager to share their passion and experiences with you, will be on hand to offer assistance through workshops, tips and assistance with camera gear. Please check with us for details about the photographer who will be joining your chosen trip.
Expedition style traveling: you do not take a trip. The trip takes you. On this, the only vessel-based expedition we offer, you'll be taken to remote Polar Regions accessed by very few travelers. As on our land-based expeditions, our routes may need to be adjusted in order to take best advantage of varying weather and ice conditions. Your captain and expedition leaders will always be ready to alter existing plans in order to take advantage of wildlife sightings and other one-of-a-kind opportunities.
The price of this flexibility is that all dives and shore landings cannot be guaranteed to take place, nor can we guarantee that they will include all the events that are outlined in advance. Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy - and excitement - of expedition-style travel, and a measure of understanding and flexibility is something that all expedition members must bring along on the voyage.
